Pyth Network
An oracle network delivering first-party market data, with pull-based onchain updates and a subscription streaming service.
THE OVERVIEW
What Pyth Network does
Pyth publishes market data sourced from first-party providers such as exchanges, banks, trading firms and market makers. Its documentation separates two offerings: Pyth Core, a set of decentralized feeds that support push and pull updates and can be verified on many blockchains, and Pyth Pro, a subscription service that streams prices at lower latency. [1]
In the pull model, anyone can submit a price update to the onchain Pyth contract, which verifies its authenticity and stores it. An application fetches the latest price from an off-chain service and submits it in the same transaction as its own logic, so the chain is only updated when a price is needed. The documentation contrasts this with push oracles that post updates on a fixed schedule and incur ongoing gas costs. [2]
IN PRACTICE
What people use it for
Read prices in a contract
Consume Pyth Core feeds through the onchain contract on a supported network. [1]
Update on demand
Fetch a signed price off-chain and submit it together with the application transaction. [2]
Stream low-latency data
Pyth Pro delivers subscription-based feeds for latency-sensitive applications. [1]
