Coinbase has pushed back on claims that it suffered a breach, tying the matter to a security incident at Amplitude, a third-party analytics vendor. The Nasdaq-listed exchange said a small group of its customers had some contact data exposed, alongside data belonging to other Amplitude clients. In a post on X, Coinbase stated it found no sign of unauthorized access to its own systems and that customer funds were unaffected. It did not say how many users were impacted or which contact details were involved, and it said it is notifying affected customers and regulators as required. Amplitude has not publicly explained how the breach happened. An Archetype spokesperson later said a claimed 70,000-user figure relates to a separate Coinbase incident from May 2025. Bithumb, South Korea's second-largest crypto exchange, reportedly also suffered a leak through an internal tool.
Why it matters: Exposed contact details could put users at risk of phishing, making third-party vendor security a concern for exchange customers.
