Dextape brief
Credit Mutuel Arkea, a French bank, said hackers used a cyberattack to make fraudulent transfers from its own account. The lender said the incident was under control, customer assets were unaffected, and some transactions were paused as a precaution. According to a follow-up note, intruders entered through a service provider's platform and sent transactions to other banks. The bank denied press reports that its online arm Fortuneo was the entry point. The bank has not confirmed the 118 million euro, or $133 million, figure, saying only that it can vouch for the general scale. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has estimated losses above $133 million. Part of the funds has been frozen, and the bank is working with authorities.
Why it matters: It shows how funds taken from a traditional bank could be converted into cryptocurrency through specialized platforms, a route relevant to crypto readers tracking hacks.
