ZachXBT Suspects Cover-Up as Tally on Suspected EU Theft Climbs to $133 Million
No institution has come forward, and ZachXBT says funds kept leaving exchanges after his first alert.

Dextape brief
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has raised his estimate of funds allegedly taken from a European Union organization to over $133 million, compared with the $106 million-plus figure in his first warning. He says the increase reflects roughly $27 million in additional withdrawals from centralized exchanges, made by the same party, with part of that movement happening after he first went public. In a Telegram update he listed four Ethereum wallet addresses connected to the theft and speculated that a large Western European financial institution may be the victim, adding that he believes the breach is being hidden. He did not identify the firm or present evidence for the cover-up claim. As of publication, regulators, exchanges and the institution had not confirmed or denied any loss. He also said part of the funds moved into Monero.
Why it matters: The case shows how fast funds can move through exchanges and into Monero, and how delayed disclosure can narrow what issuers and police can freeze.
