My name is Todd. I'm a husband, father, teacher, and I have been a type 1 diabetic for over 31 years. I absolutely love the Dexcom CGM! It has been one of the greatest aids in caring for my diabetes. However, I found that I could not keep the sensor securely attached to my skin for as long as I wanted. After a few days the adhesive began to peel and eventually the sensor would get pulled off while exercising, changing clothes, or wrestling with my children. This is an expensive and frustrating problem as the sensors are not cheap, even with insurance. The Dexcom website indicated that many patients found they can get effective use of their sensor beyond the approved seven days. In consultation with my physician, I found I could wear it and it would stay accurate for two, three, or even four weeks, if only I could keep the sensor securely attached to my skin. I experimented with a number of different products, watched videos and read forums from other diabetics with the same problem, but found no great solution. I began cutting transparent film dressing like Tegaderm or Opsite Flexifix and putting it around the Dexcom, but this was difficult and time consuming. I realized there was a need for a better product. After sampling several types of transparent film dressing I found one that was most comfortable and lasted longest and created the DexTape adhesive patch. My goal was to have a great product at a great price that would make life easier for diabetics while saving them money. I hope you enjoy this product as much as I do!
